Pragmatic Analysis of Selected Speeches of Some Governors on Workers’ Day Celebration in Nigeria

This study focuses on the pragmatic analysis of selected speeches made by some governors Workers’ Day Celebration in Nigeria. The aimed to identify and analyze features establish how these reveal governors’ intentions. Purposive sampling method was used select transcribe two recorded Governor Emmanuel Udom (2019) Akwa Ibom State Seyi Makinde (2020) Oyo State. Qualitative research design transcribed texts. theoretical models Speech Acts Austin (1962) Searle (1969) were deployed analysis. findings revealed that conveyed through following illocutionary acts: assertive (33%), commissive (20%), declaratives (15%), executives (13.75%), expressive (10%), directives (7.5%). also establishes intentions prioritize workers’ welfare, encourage assure them their interest sustain post-COVID 19 economy. concluded effectively motives, thus highlighting importance language ideology political communication.
